CommunityTrent Valley Academy is one of the community’s leaders and therefore has a critical contribution to make towards creating a society in which people from different backgrounds can live together in an environment of mutual respect and understanding. Our aim is to contribute to a community in which there is a shared common vision and a sense of belonging and where people from diverse backgrounds feel appreciated and valued.

The Academy’s new building is fully compliant with the Disability Discrimination Act.

 

Examples of specific provisions include:

 

  • Fire alarms – use of pagers linked to office for hearing impaired students
  • Canteen menus in large print/display 
  • ‘Loop system’ fitted to main hall enabling hearing aid users to eliminate background noise 
  • Wheelchair access desks 
  • Procedures in place for lift failure

Special Educational Needs

 

Our Special Educational Needs (SEN) Policy sets clear procedures about:

  • Identifying needs
  • Assessment recording and reporting 
  • The responsibilities of all staff and governors 
  • Arrangements for liaising with parents/carers and external agencies
