Trent Valley Academy is one of the community’s leaders and therefore has a critical contribution to make towards creating a society in which people from different backgrounds can live together in an environment of mutual respect and understanding. The Academy’s new building is fully compliant with the Disability Discrimination Act.

Examples of specific provisions include:

• Fire alarms – use of pagers linked to office for hearing impaired students
• Canteen menus in large print/display 
• ‘Loop system’ fitted to main hall enabling hearing aid users to eliminate background noise 
• Wheelchair access desks 
• Procedures in place for lift failure

Our Special Educational Needs (SEN) Policy sets clear procedures about:

• Identifying needs
• Assessment recording and reporting 
• The responsibilities of all staff and governors 
• Arrangements for liaising with parents/carers and external agencies
