E-ACT and Trent Valley Academy

E-ACT is delighted to be working with Lincolnshire County Council, the Local Authority and the Federated Governing Body of Castle Hills Community Arts College and Middlefield School of Technology to sponsor the Trent Valley Academy, in partnership with the Gainsborough Education Village Trust.

E-ACT will invest in the academy and Gainsborough community as part of its commitment to:

‘A local academy for local children and
the local community’

E-ACT is:

  • A registered charity, not-for-profit organisation established to promote educational excellence and raise standards
  • Developing academies as ‘Centres of Excellence’ to enhance the life chances of, and opportunities for, young people
  • Focused on supporting the aspirations, learning, achievement and personal development of students, irrespective of ability, gender, faith or race
  • Currently working in partnership with Birmingham, Sheffield, Oldham, Leeds and Brent Local Authorities to establish academies

E-ACT academies are:

  • Inclusive – non-selective, non-faith – providing quality education for local children. E.A.C.T.  academies follow the Local Authority admissions and other policies and the National Curriculum
  • Based on the principles of diversity , tolerance and equality – where young people are supported to become successful, integrated citizens who contribute to a cohesive, multicultural society
  • Managed by a Governing Body of local stakeholders (including parents, staff, Local Authority representatives, employers and education institutions)
  • Assets for their communities, open out of school hours and forming a focus for activities and facilities which relate to family needs, including education, training, health, fitness, recreation and social events

E-ACT has:

  • A Management Team of specialists with active experience in education to support its academies
  • Established strong links and partnerships with major local and national firms, NHS Trusts and places of further and higher education to draw on their expertise and support
  • Extensive networks of contacts in the public, private and voluntary sectors which benefit students, staff and Governing Bodies

E-ACT’s ethos is based on high aspirations
expectations and achievement

E-ACT will:

  • Always be focused on the needs of the academy’s young people
  • Foster new and innovative approaches to learning and enable students to work in a technologically and ICT rich environment
  • Work in partnership with the Local Authority and local education partnerships and collaborate with other schools, including local primaries, to continue to raise educational standards
  • Support the professional development of staff as the academy’s most valuable asset
  • Provide investment in the community to improve opportunities for everyone

E-ACT is particularly keen to support the development of a close relationship between the academy and the co-located secondary special school. This will enable the academy facilities, resources and opportunities to be made more widely available to local young people and their families.

Whilst the construction of the building remains on track for completion by September 2009, E-ACT is working closely with Tom Megahy (Principal) and Ben Green (Chair of Governors), with the DCSF, to maximise funding for the academy facilities and resources. Much work is also being done to develop a relevant curriculum which has clear progression routes to employment and further education.

As part of its commitment to the academy, E-ACT will ‘add value’ by investing in additional resources and opportunities to enable young people and staff to benefit from high quality experiences. These will include:

  • Bursaries to support students to go on to University
  • Action research and study/CPD opportunities for staff
  • Support for an extensive programme of enrichment and extra-curricular activities
  • Links with local colleges, universities, organisations and professional bodies to enrich learning experiences and provide wider opportunities
  • Personal mentors from the business, private, voluntary and HE sectors to provide one-to-one support to aid individual student attainment
  • An international dimension to curriculum opportunities

E-ACT will continue to work closely with all partners to ensure that the Trent Valley Academy develops into an outstanding place of learning and asset for the young people and families of Gainsborough.
