SOME KEY ISSUES

Improve Attainment & Achievement

  • 5C (including Maths & English) 5A*-C  Top quartile CVA 2-4 – consistently above flow targets
  • New KS4 curriculum embedded – contributing to improved APS / CVA
  • Increases at L5+ in core subjects
Improve Teaching & Learning
  • Teaching – QA - continuous audit of quality.  Focussed staff development / CPD,  peer coaching.
  • Learning – Development of basic skills in Literacy & Numeracy (access!).  ICT skills.  Other “skills for learning” (organisational, group work, information seeking etc). Targeted intervention at KS3 (2+ levels?)  Establish and develop extended learning programme.
  • Curriculum – introduction of new courses at both key stages.  Diploma developments.  Development of ‘media’ as bridge between specialisms.
  • Assessment – continue to embed AFL.  Agreed joint policy and practice (ARR). Support for self-assessment and individual target-setting.  Ongoing development of academic tutoring.  Data and Assessment Manager provides data for staff trained in its effective use.
Improve Behaviour & Attitudes to Learning
  • Establish positive behaviour management policy and practice.  Continue SEAL initiatives.
  • Raise aspirations and motivation.  Maximise attendance.  Establish IEC.
  • Develop range of ‘student voice’ activities.  Improve quality of homework.  Increase opportunities for students to take responsibilities.
Leadership & Management
  • Establish new Governing Body / effective relationship with staff.  Develop new SLT.  Develop and embed whole school ethos.  Ensure middle leaders are ‘engine-house’ for school improvement – taking responsibility for standards and self evaluation in their areas.  Development of leadership amongst support staff.  Increasing take up of leadership and management training via NCSL.  Talent spotting / succession planning.  Embed SIMs and new FMS.
Pastoral Re-organisation
  • Appoint / induct Student Support Managers – clarify role of Achievement Coordinators and relationship with SSMs.  Train / develop support staff as Support Tutors.  Develop role of Academic Tutors.
  • Review and implement new PHSCEE programme.  Extend buddying / peer mentoring initiatives.
Ongoing Partnership Development
  • Effective stakeholder analysis.  Development of increasingly effective links with: parents, 14-19 partners (including training organisations), business and industry, higher education.
  • Creative approaches to multi-agency working in support of CYP agenda.  Increasingly close partnership with co-located Special School.
Contribution of Specialist Subjects
  • Strategy for moving forward with dual specialism.  Establishing line management and arrangements for monitoring / evaluation.
  • Key priorities as selected from existing specialist subject development plans.
