Message from the Principal

As Principal of Trent Valley Academy, I am both delighted and privileged to welcome you to our website.  As we develop the site, our aim is to provide a first-rate facility which will meet the needs of a wide variety of readers – especially existing and prospective students and their parents and carers.

The Academy is the result of a successful and developing partnership between E-ACT and The Gainsborough Educational Village Trust – combining the support and expertise of an increasingly influential national academy provider, with a variety of local organisations from both the public and private sectors. Sponsors, staff and governors are equally determined that we shall create a fully inclusive all ability school, committed to the highest possible standards of achievement.

TVA has dual specialist status in Performing Arts and Technology and officially opened on 1st September 2008, having been successfully awarded accelerated status by the Department for Children Schools and Families. During our first year, we continued to work on our predecessor sites before moving to our magnificent purpose designed premises in September 2009.

We can now boast outstanding facilities for learning in all areas. Departments have enjoyed unprecedented levels of investment in brand new resources, with a determination to provide a stimulating and motivating 21st century learning environment. At the same time facilities such as a superbly equipped fitness suite, community theatre, newly installed tv studio and radio station and spacious multi media resource centre, deliver a quality of provision which bears comparison with any in the country.

The notion of ‘anywhere, anytime’ learning has always been central to our vision. As a result we have invested over two million pounds in ICT and our highly innovative solution is attracting significant national attention. In addition to a very high ratio of computers to students, youngsters are able to access all packages available to them at school via the home school link. As our new Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) comes on stream this will further support home learning, whilst allowing parents to access a wide range of ‘real time’ student performance data via the parent gateway.

The highly positive way in which both students and staff have risen to the challenge of coming together in our new building continues to confirm our confidence in the future. We are certainly sure that having been highlighted as one of the country’s most improved schools by DCSF in 2009, this is in no way a ‘one-off’ accolade. Our community can be assured that our determination to drive up standards and deliver the best possible outcomes for all our young people, remains as strong as ever.

We realise that one key feature of any successful school is its ability to build effective and productive partnerships with parents and the wider community. Over coming years we look forward to working alongside you to raise the aspirations of our students and transform their life chances. Should you at any stage have suggestions as to ways in which we can strengthen our partnership, or improve our service to you, please don’t hesitate to let us know.

Best wishes

Tom Megahy (Executive Principal)
